You can pick up an Annual Manual any time at the Inlander office downtown, until they run out in June or July anyway.
The Inlander http://www.inlander.com/
Free local entertainment weekly, widely available in bookstores, restaurants, supermarkets, and public libraries; the easiest way to keep track of fun stuff to do around here. Make sure you pick up their free Annual Manual, published every August, and distributed twice more later in the year; it includes icons for winners by category of their yearly "Best Of" reader survey.
The Spokane Sidekick
Former free alternative entertainment paper, every other week.
The Local Planet
Another free weekly we had here for a few years, which was edgier and more controversial ... apparently too much so for Spokane area advertisers. Very disappointing (the advertisers, not the paper).

Used vehicles for sale, paper and online editions; keyword search.

Spokane (City of) Parks and Recreation http://spokaneparks.org/
Spokane has a lot of park space for its size. The crown jewels are probably Riverfront Park surrounding the falls in the city center, much older Manito Park and Botanical Gardens on the South Hill, and Finch Arboretum. Manito Park was designed by the Olmsted Brothers landscape design firm, who drafted a comprehensive parks plan for the city around 1908.

Local airfields

Felts Field (SFF) http://www.spokaneairports.net.xohost.com/felts_main.htm
Felts Field http://www.airnav.com/airport/KSFF
85-year-old general aviation airfield, with an Art Deco terminal building, including the excellent Skyway Cafe, which could be described as a breakfast-and-lunch diner variation with drivers coming in from one direction and pilots from the other. Felts Field Aviation has been the FBO at Felts Field since 1976.¹
Spokane International Airport (GEG) http://www.spokaneairports.net.xohost.com/
Spokane International http://www.airnav.com/airport/KGEG
Full-service airport, ten minutes from downtown. Served as an Army Air Corps B-17 and C-47 training facility during WWII under the name Geiger Field. The former Air National Guard base across the field from the civilian terminal (access via Geiger Blvd.) is now dominated by FBO SpokaneAirways
During the Cold War,
Fairchild AFB was the
home of 92nd Bomb
Wing (Heavy) Strategic
Air Command.
Fairchild Air Force Base (SKA) http://www.fairchild.af.mil/
Fairchild AFB http://www.airnav.com/airport/KSKA
Regional air refueling hub: home of 92nd Air Refueling Wing, Air Mobility Command, 141st ARW, Washington Air National Guard (the Ace of Spades) and 336th Training Group, USAF Survival School. Excellent Skyfest air show most years since 1962, with the Thunderbirds about every other year.
Coeur d'Alene Airport–Pappy Boyington Field (COE) http://www.airnav.com/airport/KCOE
Near Hayden ID, north of Coeur d'Alene, charters and general aviation; renamed in 2007 in honor of the local WWII hero.
Deer Park Airport (DEW) http://www.airnav.com/airport/KDEW

Sandpoint Airport (SZT) http://www.airnav.com/airport/KSZT
Bonner County ID; general aviation.

1. Felts Field was Spokane's only civilian airport until 1946; that's why it says "Spokane Airport" on the street side of the terminal. Washington Air National Guard had its beginnings at Felts in 1924 as the 116th Observation Squadron, whose first aircraft were three Curtis JN-6-A2 "Jenny" biplanes. The west end of the flight line still has the historic brick squadron headquarters building (unfortunately redeveloped as offices) and brick hangar with Ace of Spades emblem. You don't see too many brick airplane hangars.
2. From 1947 to 1976 Air Guard fighter pilots living here flew air defense missions from the Geiger Blvd. side of the airport, in a series of aircraft types: P-51 Mustang, F-84, F-86 Sabre, F-94B, F-89D, delta-wing F-102, and F-101B Voodoo. I once personally saw two on-alert F-101's start up and take off in formation, on a foggy night, watching from Spotted Road just outside the fence. They began their takeoff roll and quickly disappeared in the fog, but after they lit afterburners I could see them climb out.
